But I wonder if Cleveland's reluctance to improve the airport will hurt the city again.  There has been talk of expanding runways:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2007-05-07-cleveland-runway_N.htm"&gt;http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2007-05-07-cleveland-runway_N.htm&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The article mentions the runway would only be needed for pacific rim glights.  But the lack of non-stop destiantions has been one of many reasons a comapny leaves Cleveland, or chooses not to come at all.  Boeing was once considering northeast Ohio for a plant.  They would have used Cleveland's port, but Youngstown's airport, Hopkins wasn't enough. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-104114156.html"&gt;http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-104114156.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes traffic may be declining at Hopkins, but that may mean an investment needs to be made to make it a viable option.
