Regionalism in Cleveland

Its funny how Cuyahoga suburbs demand regionalism from outlying counties:

But Cuyahoga cities are reluctant to to regionalize servies with Cleveland.

The Airport, an economic key to Cleveland

I hope Cleveland can land the expanded Continental Airlines hub at Hopkins International Airport:

It would mean some much needed jobs. But I wonder if Cleveland's reluctance to improve the airport will hurt the city again. There has been talk of expanding runways:
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2007-05-07-cleveland-runway_N.htm

The article mentions the runway would only be needed for pacific rim glights. But the lack of non-stop destiantions has been one of many reasons a comapny leaves Cleveland, or chooses not to come at all. Boeing was once considering northeast Ohio for a plant. They would have used Cleveland's port, but Youngstown's airport, Hopkins wasn't enough.

Yes traffic may be declining at Hopkins, but that may mean an investment needs to be made to make it a viable option. The runway expansion may not be needed for this potential Contiental project, but it is an example of the lack of foresight in the past.
